- This study evaluated the application of advanced bimetallic catalytic species of Ni and W to effectively produce hydrogen gases from ethanol steam reforming. The highest reactivity was achieved using the Ni(0.95)W(0.05/)SBA-15 catalyst. The maximum H-2 production and ethanol conversion of 90% and 85%, respectively, were obtained for 0.4 g catalyst at 600 degrees C after 10 h with a EtOH:H2O ratio of 1:3 and a gas hourly space velocity of 6000 h(-1). This highlights a synergy between the Ni and W loading on SBA-15 during ethanol steam reforming that occurs through the inhibition of Ni particle agglomeration and consequent decrease in catalytic deactivation. Additionally, the supplied W ingredients promoted CO2 selectivity, which was generated from the CO-water gas shift reaction. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
