Abstract
Homogeneous SiC thick films with thicknesses up to 2.8 mm were deposited by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) under an asymmetric AC signal using an aqueous suspension. For this, a well-dispersed suspension containing 10 wt% beta-sic nanoparticles was prepared based on both electrostatic and steric dispersion mechanisms, which were achieved by considering the zeta potential and the addition of anionic ammonium polycarboxylate dispersant, respectively. A similar test using a DC electric field was performed for comparison, where the films deposited by AC-EPD showed a more uniform and denser microstructure than those by DC-EPD.
