Abstract
Homogeneous BaTiO3 (BT) films were deposited successfully by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) using an aqueous suspension under an asymmetric alternating current (AC) electric field. A well-dispersed suspension containing 5 wt% BT nanocrystallites was prepared in water by adding a 1 wt% aqueous dispersant and 0.5 wt% polyvinyl alcohol binder at pH 10. This pH was chosen by considering the zeta potential of the particles. The microstructure of the deposited films was observed by scanning electron microscopy. Compared to the non-uniform film morphology prepared under a direct current (DC), AC-EPD revealed uniform and crack-free films. The effects of the voltage, frequency and time on the deposit yield were also investigated. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
