Abstract
Lanthanum, strontium and manganese (LSM), as an oxygen-electrode ( anode) material for a high temperature electrolysis system, was synthesized using a modified-glycine nitrate process. The synthesis of LSM was carried out at three different conditions and the starting materials and solvent were also varied in this study. The La:Sr:Mn ratio was fixed to 8:2:10 in the preparation. Based on the result of thermogravimetric analysis-differential scanning calorimetry, the prepared LSM formula was calcined at 800 degrees C and then sintered further at 1200 degrees C to remove the organic residues. A perovskite phase and secondary phases (Mn2O4 and La2O3) were detected by X-ray diffraction of the sintered powder. Scanning electron microscopy revealed the particle size of the agglomerated powder to be more than 200 nm. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area measurements under the three different conditions were 2.9796 m(2)/g, 0.5272 m(2)/g, and 1.8870 m(2)/g.
