Abstract
MnO2 nanotubes with nanopore dimension were prepared using Hydrothermal method. Morphological analysis by FE-SEM showed well aligned nanotubes with an average pore size of 20 nm. Structural analysis by XRD showed crystalline body-centered tetragonal alpha-MnO2 phase. FT-IR spectrum showed the presence of alpha-MnO2 phase with an evidence for hydrated MnO2. Composition analysis by XPS also disclosed the presence of hydrated MnO2. From the XPS spectra analysis, the chemical state of Mn in MnO2 was found to be +3. The composite of alpha-MnO2/MWCNT on Ni foam current collector present fair electrochemical properties such as a specific capacitance of 360 F/g at 5 mVs(-1) in 6 M KOH with excellent cycle stability and oxidation-reduction reaction (ORR) since CNT as conductive matrix provides electronic conduction path way and mechanical stability.
