Abstract
We investigated the potential for dosimetry applications of single-crystalline Cd0.86Mn0.14Te exhibiting an electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) absorption line-shape in its hyperfine structures due to the paramagnetic characteristics of Mn2+. We did this using EPR. In our experiment, in the region above 0.1 Gray at room temperature, the EPR signal intensity of Cd0.86Mn0.14Te linearly increased as the irradiation dose was increased. Also, our photoluminescence (PL) measurements showed that the electron energy level due to localized paramagnetic ions was shifted to a slightly higher energy and that the density of energy levels increased with increasing irradiation dose in a way similar to EPR intensity. For very weak irradiation doses below 0.001 Gray, which are difficult to detect by using general methods, our experiment was clearly able to show an EPR signal for Cd0.86Mn0.14Te when the measurement temperature was decreased. The fading value of the EPR signal intensity for Cd0.86Mn0.14Te was still constant one month after the irradiation.
