Abstract
Hybrid bulk hetero-junction solar cells were fabricated by blending [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) and conjugate poly(3-hexyl thiophene) (P3HT) polymer. The effects of annealing and the incorporation of CdSe nanoparticles (NPs) on the device performance were investigated. Annealing and CdSe NP incorporation increased the charge carrier separation at the PCBM/polymer interface by increasing the short circuit current and efficiency. Thermal annealing of the fabricated cell structure at 140 A degrees C for 5 min was found to be optimal for the device performance, resulting in a maximum power conversion efficiency of 4.2% under AM1.5G simulated solar irradiation.
