Abstract
We conduct a case study on learning organizations in small and medium size companies in Daegu-Gyeongbuk region, and offer strategies for promoting the learning organizations. Three automobile-parts companies are examined as cases. Successful learning organizations are characterized as follows: (1) deep understanding and interests of CEOs in the learning organization, (2) superb leadership of the managers of the learning organization, (3) organizational learning is well orchestrated with human resource management, (4) having in-company competitions to promote motivation, (5) cooperation with outside consultants, and (6) existence of role-models in big companies in the region. Based on the case study, we offer following strategies: (1) establishing regional CEO forum for learning organization, (2) training managers of learning organizations, (3) supporting and promoting leaders' council that consists of managers of individual companies, (4) promoting learning organizations in leading companies in the region, and (5) incorporating the learning organization program in BRIDGE project.
