Abstract
A tri-branched tri-anchoring organic dye (Dye 2) consisting of one donor (D) in the center, three pi bridges, and three acceptor (A) groups in the order of D-pi-A was designed and each A group ended with a COOH anchoring group. The Dye 2-sensitized TiO(2) exhibited a significantly improved photoelectrochemical response under visible light illumination, compared to TiO(2) sensitized with a mono-anchoring dye (Dye 1). It is due to the enhanced optical density and more efficient interfacial electron transfer from the photoexcited dye to the TiO(2). (C) 2010 The Japan Society of Applied Physics
